The largest retail and office complex in the city of Worcester is also preparing for more people to return to work and shopping as the state reopens.
One month ago, the Mercantile Center in Downtown Worcester started developing a reopening and operating plan. Two weeks ago, they created a manual and held webinars telling tenants of the changes to the building’s operations.
Chip Norton, Managing Director of the Mercantile Center, “Distancing in the lobbies, in the common areas, wearing masks in the common areas, the cleaning procedures were going through in the common areas as well as the tenant areas, and then also HVAC. Comments and questions, how we’re dealing with air circulation within the building. Most of the larger tenants, that’s who really we focused on. They’re going to phase in slowly. Some are not going to start until next week or the week after, and 25% or less is kind of the norm we’re hearing and be up and running probably full steam by the end of June.”
The Mercantile Center spans 650,000 square feet over 3 buildings and houses more than 30 businesses including CVS, Fuel America coffee shop, banks and medical offices.
